For those of you looking for a newer (note that it’s NOT new – just “new-ish”) Business Book to dive into – I recommend REWORK.  The 2010 best-seller from Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson (Founders of 37 Signals – creators of popular organization & planning tools Basecamp, Highrise, Backpack and Campfire).

Oh, and once you read it – you may never grab another Business Book again… not in the traditional-sense anyway.  I think that the authors intended for that to happen :-)

If I could sum up this book in one word (besides its title) – it would be “Replace”.  What I mean by that is that you should open this book prepared to replace a lot of the more common place truisms you have in your mind about Business.  This book challenges all of that in an approach that’s palatable to everyone.  Whether you currently own/operate a business, or are just looking to get started – this is a good one to have in your arsenal.

Don’t take my word for it – check out this 19 page PDF excerpt of the book.  If you don’t feel like wading through that – just check out one of my favorite sections from the opening of the book – “Ignore the Real World”…

Every section in the book is composed of bite-size, but well-stated, segments like that one.

Check out a little bit more of the book in the Amazon preview of the text by clicking the cover image below.  You can also find out a bit more (although it’s probably biased of course) on this review page on the 37 Signals website where I got a bit of the content for this post from.

I honestly think this book appeals to me because it’s practically written how my generation approaches business naturally.  In the age of “keep it simple & keep it quick” – this read came along right in time.  I really doubt that their practices take effect in large corporations anytime soon – but it almost seems like this should be a standard guide amongst smaller organizations.

What do you think of the book?  Have you ever read it before – if so, share how it’s impacted your approach to business thus far.  Are there any other books along the lines of this one that you’d recommend?  Let us know in the Comment Section below.

Peace, and thanks for reading.  Happy New Year!
