We Love Typography!

...[W]hen's the last time you actually stopped to appreciate the look and feel of the written stylings you were gazing at? When's the last time a type face really caught your attention?

You know, I don’t think people give enough credit to the artists behind the letters we see on a daily basis (not to be a hypocrite – today’s banner was originally put together by tombstOne on deviantART).  Sure – we love reading things, but when’s the last time you actually stopped to appreciate the look and feel of the written stylings you were gazing at?  When’s the last time a type face really caught your attention?

Letters, when arranged properly, can tell a story or they can create beautiful imagery all their own.  I’m not just talking about being a piece of a composition using photos and such like we’re accustomed to… I mean LITERALLY making up the art itself using just letters and familiar phrases.  Check out the Google Search Results for “Typography Art” if you don’t believe me.  And don’t even get me started on Graffiti lettering…

As a semi-web designer and fan of visual art forms – I can appreciate a good font setting when I see it.  I’m not going to front like I’m an expert at it or anything – but I did stumble across the great website WeLoveTypography.com.

I’s pretty cool.  You can search their huge database of font types randomly, by color, by keyword – or just plain old page by page.

Give the site a look by clicking the image above and let me know if you come across any that especially appeal to you.  Also be sure to check out the navigation above everything.  It has links to the blog ILoveTypography.com, a game for the iPhone and much more.

And as a bonus – for this post only – if you really are into fonts like that and want to add a few free ones to your computer (because those babies can get expensive), check out 1001freefonts.com and download away.  It’s safe and legal.  I’ve gotten a ton of great fonts from that site in the past.

Had you ever seen that site before?  Do you have any fonts that you especially like?  What are they (tell us)?  Can you think of any books or magazine covers that have featured especially attractive fonts that you enjoyed?  Tell us these things and more in the Comment Section below.

Peace and thanks for reading.
